Vegetable gardening at Lesabe Primary school

You can't do any vegetable gardening without controlling the pest problem and you can't control the pests without helping nature to regain a balance. That's what this owl is doing here, just before it's release. The owls will hunt the rats, and that's a big help. It's also great learning for the kids at the school. These animals are sometimes harmed because of people's old fashioned superstitions.

 There are some owl boxes in the trees nearby which it is hoped will prove suitable for the owls.

 The learners at the school seem impressed by what they have seen so far. Vegetable gardening is not the simple thing some thought it was. You are dealing with the whole of nature.

 The seedling tunnels are underway, although the vegetable fields still have some way to go. Putting the whole project together has been quite some undertaking.
